Cross-border cooperation
Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) is a key element of the EU policy towards its neighbours. It supports sustainable development along the EU’s external borders, helps reducing differences in living standards and addressing common challenges across these borders.
CBC has three main objectives:
• promoting economic and social development in border areas;
• addressing common challenges (environment, public health, safety and security);
• putting in place better conditions for persons, goods and capital mobility.
Budget
A budget of €1 billion made of contributions from the European Regional Development Fund and the ENI budget has been earmarked for CBC for the period 2014-2020.

Transnational cooperation
The Interreg initiative is designed to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion throughout the European Union, by fostering the balanced development of the continent through cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation.

INTERREG V C 2014-2020 covers 4 interregional cooperation programmes Interreg EUROPE, INTERACT, URBACT and ESPON.

INTERREG EUROPE cooperation programme is a policy learning programme for European public authorities promoting the exchange of experience and the transfer of good practices between actors at all levels in Europe. By encouraging the share of knowledge the effectiveness of cohesion policy should be reinforced.
